Q: Is the theater wheelchair accessible?
A: Yes, we have a wheelchair-accessible entrance and bathroom, and we can adjust our seating arrangements to meet your needs. To access the wheelchair entrance please let the staff member at the front know, and we will come to assist you. We also seat patrons with special needs first to help accommodate you. With prior notice, we can provide extra personalized support in shows or adaptive curriculum in classes. If possible, please call us in advance to discuss your needs so our staff can better assist you.
Q: Do you allow strollers in the theater?
A: Strollers may be left in our lobby, and you may bring in bassinets or carriers that can fit on a seat. Strollers are NOT allowed inside the theater, as our aisles are not wide enough to safely accommodate strollers. All aisles must remain clear during the show.
AUDIENCE EXPERIENCE
Q: How do I know if a show is right for my child?
A: Box Office staff can provide guidance on which shows are most age-appropriate for your child. Please see age recommendations for additional information that will guide this conversation.
Q: How long is the show?
A: Mainstage shows are typically between 40 minutes to an hour in length, with no intermission.
Q: What is “general admission” seating?
A: Seating is first come, first serve. We begin seating 5 minutes before the show begins. Puppet Showplace members and those with special seating needs are seated first, followed by the rest of the audience.
Q: Do adults and children sit together?
A: Adult seating is limited to specific sections to maximize sightlines. Adults may sit on either end of each row of benches with children ushered to the center. This ensures that everyone has an unobstructed view of the puppet stage. When shows are crowded, adult seats may not be available next to where your child wishes to sit. This is something to keep in mind when deciding if your child is old enough to attend a performance. Children may sit on an adult’s lap, provided that the adult remains in a designated adult seat.
Q: Do you sell concessions?
A: Food and drink are not allowed in the theater. We do not sell concessions, but you are welcome to bring your own snacks to enjoy in our lobby.
Q: Can I buy a ticket for my child and drop him/her off in the theater?
A: All children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult inside the theater. During each show, there is one usher in the theater. Our ushers are responsible for ensuring the comfort and safety of all audience members. It is not possible for ushers to closely supervise one child.
Q: Do you have a waiting list for sold out performances?
A: If you come to a sold out performance without first purchasing a ticket you can be placed on an in-person waiting list. Members will be placed at the top of the waiting list. If patrons who have reservations do not pick up their tickets by curtain time, those tickets will be released to people on the waiting list.
You must be at the theater to get on the waiting list and you must be in the lobby to receive any tickets that may be released.
Being on the waiting list is not a guarantee of receiving a ticket.
Q: What if we didn’t like the show?
A: Puppet Showplace Theater presents a diverse range of puppetry styles so you and your family can sample artistic and culturally-specific styles that are new or unfamiliar. Each show is different and may not suit everyone's tastes or expectations. We welcome feedback about individual experiences and will always pass audience comments on to the performers. We do not provide refunds. Our staff are always happy to provide personal recommendations, identifying shows that align with your preferences.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Q: Under what circumstances would you cancel a show?
A: Puppet Showplace makes decisions to cancel when we feel that the weather is too dangerous for the audience to attend. Our decision is often influenced by local municipalities’ decisions, such as a parking ban or school closing. However, the theater’s ultimate decision is independent of these. We may also cancel or change the show under other extenuating circumstances, such as a severe performer illness.
Q: What is your policy for snow or other inclement weather?
A: We make every effort to stay open during inclement weather, and we make our cancellation decisions in tandem with information from the Town of Brookline.
MISCELLANEOUS
Q: Are you a registered non-profit?
A: We are a non-profit corporation as defined by chapter 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code.
Q: Do you fix or restore broken puppets?
A: No, Puppet Showplace does not provide these services.
Q: Can I donate puppets, masks, or art supplies?
A: Thank you for thinking of us! However, due to extremely limited storage space, Puppet Showplace does not accept any donations of puppets, masks, art supplies, theatrical supplies, etc. We also are unable to help you find a recipient for these items.
